Lazare develops solidarity shared accommodation between the homeless and young working people.
Lazare was set up as a not-for-profit organisation in 2011. Each home houses between 6 to 10 people with half being young workers and the other half former homeless people.
The association is present in Nantes, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, Angers, Vaumoise, Valence in France as well as in Madrid, Spain and Brussels, Belgium. Other development projects are underway in France and also in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Switzerland.
The association was established in France based on the relatively large number of people living on the streets. Lazare offers an innovative solution to homeless people by providing housing for them and assisting them to get back on their feet through social networks, while at the same time giving them a sense of responsibility with everyone contributing to the costs of the house.
Excellent results have been achieved over the past 11 years with 95% of the housemates saying they are happy or very happy to live at Lazare, 85% of the housemates who were homeless leave Lazare for stable housing and 40% of the homeless find work.
What a great way to spend an evening in Paris on board a boat cruising down the Seine River cruise and at the same time contributing to the funding of a new home to take people off the streets.
This year’s TCM charity auction took in the Parisian atmosphere floating past the Eiffel Tower to set the scene for our now famous charity auction. This event is an integral part of our annual world congress where our members from all over the world meet to discuss business, objectives, strategies and marketing opportunities. Whilst the business element of the meetings is always productive, we dedicated one evening solely to our commitment to social responsibility through the auction.
Our annual charity auction was introduced in 2013 by Jeff Li (TCM China) to raising funds for a charity of the hosts country’s choice to assist those that are less fortunate than we are.
Our auction was well supported by all delegates who donated items brought from their home countries. These become memorabilia items for the delegates, and a constant reminder when they return home of the great time spent in Paris.
Thanks to our auctioneers Amir Erez (TCM USA) and Pierre Haincourt (TCM UK) we raised US$16 600 from our members as they out-bid each other to take home their prized items. TCM Group pledging a further US$2,000, taking our overall donation to Lazare to US$18 600.
